Frequently Asked Questions

Carbon fiber is a high-performance composite material composed of thin crystalline filaments of carbon atoms, bonded together in a crystalline formation aligned parallel to the long axis of the fiber. The result is a material with one of the highest strength-to-weight ratios available — roughly five times stronger than steel while weighing about two-thirds less. Carbon fiber fabric is available in a wide range of weave patterns and tow counts, each offering different mechanical properties and aesthetic finishes.

The "K" number refers to the number of individual carbon filaments in a single tow (bundle). 3K has 3,000 filaments per tow, producing a finer weave with a tighter appearance. 12K has 12,000 filaments, creating a heavier, more visible weave pattern that deposits more material per layer — ideal for structural applications where layup efficiency matters.

Our dry carbon fiber fabrics are compatible with epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resin systems. Epoxy is strongly recommended for maximum strength and adhesion. Always ensure your resin is appropriate for the application temperature and environment of your finished part.

Reflective metallic carbon fiber incorporates a metallic or iridescent layer that interacts with light to produce vivid color shifts — available in blue, purple, red, and silver. These materials are used primarily for decorative applications including automotive interiors, accessories, and custom fabrication where visual impact is the priority.

We offer flexible purchasing options. Most fabrics are available by the yard (or meter), with full-roll pricing available for bulk orders. Volume discounts apply to orders over specified minimums — contact us for custom pricing on larger quantities.

Carbon fiber filaments can cause skin irritation and should not be inhaled. Always wear gloves, a dust mask or respirator, and eye protection when cutting, sanding, or grinding carbon fiber. Work in a ventilated area and dispose of fiber waste according to local regulations.

Chopped carbon fiber (short strands, typically 1/4" to 1/2" in length) is used in compression molding, sheet molding compound (SMC), bulk molding compound (BMC), and as filler reinforcement in resins and plastics. It provides multi-directional reinforcement and is easy to mix into casting compounds or spray applications.
